The Moss is Unreal Here!

Image
Is this really an article about moss? Okay, I'm not going to spend a whole article talking about moss, but I did want to quickly remark on how incredible moss looks in combination with the wet weather in Nova Scotia. Of course, if you are anywhere else in Canada, you are bound to find some type of moss lying around on a log or rock. It's not a unique phenomenon to Nova Scotia. However, being on the Eastern coast of Canada, the proximity to salt rich water creates a unique biodiversity allowing special types of moss to form.  Christmas "Moss" Okay, a note about Christmas in Halifax. You're probably not going to find anything as unique as a Capital city's traditions during Christmas time. There are a number of Christmas markets open this time of year selling all sorts of Christmas goodies. The malls as suspected are packed with people trying to find some deals for the holidays. But amongst it all, you can find glimpses of this special season in the decorations i...

Cost of Living in Canada's Prettiest Province

Image
Living in Canada is a wonderful privilege, especially given our beautiful geography, culture, and culinary experience. Much like many countries, Canada can be quite diverse in both its culture and landscape. One might wonder if living in such a beautiful place can be obtained without breaking the budget. As a resident of Canada's most beautiful province - Nova Scotia, and a former resident of Ontario I have a good economic understanding of the range of financial challenges of living in Canada. The following numbers represent a Nova Scotian Lifestyle. Salary Let's start with income. On average, Canadians make approximately $42,000/yr. Consider that a married couple would make twice that at $84,000/yr. So can you live comfortably off of this? Absolutely. I'd propose that a married couple without kids could live on just one income of $42,000/yr granted they have limited their recurring expenses and habitual spending habits. Expenses As stated above, the average income is $42...

5 Reasons why you'd want to move to Halifax!

Image
So you're thinking about travelling to Nova Scotia? Maybe even move there? Well before you do, consider reading this quick guide to the Nation's most diverse province! The Sights Depending on which part of the province you go to, Nova Scotia has some of the most breathtaking views of all of Canada. Sure British Columbia has the Rockies, but there's nothing like a rocky coastline painted with green algae nestled against a candy orange sky.             Herring Cove Provincial Park Coast - a beautiful sunset horizon on the edge of a            dioritic rich coastline. What makes the coastlines so unmatched is the diverse geology. There are well over 2 dozen unique regions of rock units, each with its own family and members of rock units. One example of this is the Cobequid-Cheaubucto Fault Zone near Clarke Head which showcases one of the largest Mega-breccia deposits in the world.             Cl...

Why we left Ontario after 26 years!

Image
For 26 years, I had been living in Ontario. It was here, in London, where I grew up, got an education, got married to my best friend and had our daughter. So why did my wife and I decide to just up and go to live in a different province?   Well... there are many reasons for why people emigrate to other parts of a country or to other countries. It's difficult to say that there was solely one reason for our departure from our hometown, because much like any major decision, there is a lot to consider. Family At the forefront of our minds was our families, both of which resided in Ontario (within a 1.5hr radius). Arguably, any move out of the province would be a huge impact on family dynamics and interaction. We didn't take this lightly, and seriously considered options to stay close to home. We did however know that in the event that we did move far away; our strongest relationships would only grow stronger and the ones that were weak would make themselves apparent to us. Job Oppo...
