Pros & Cons of Living in Halifax/Nova Scotia vs Ontario

 Pros

  • Living on the coast close to the Ocean (It is proven to improve mental health)
  • Less snow if you live close to the Coast (More rain)
  • Many beautiful sights only 30 mins away
  • Unique and eclectic housing (Victorian, Modern, European, Spanish, Colourful, Maritime)
  • Get to live in Halifax, a beautiful Capital City (Halifax/Dartmouth/Sackville/Bedford/Cole Harbour/Clayton Park all within minutes of each other)
  • Can Travel anywhere in the province in 6 hours or less (Even PEI is close!)
  • Delicious Seafood (It's a staple food source!)
  • Cheaper Car insurance (Much!)
  • Rent is cheaper or very similar to Ontario (Cheaper on the outskirts of town)
  • Lots of things to do (Events, Markets, Tours)
  • A wide variety of job opportunities available
  • Easy to navigate roads
  • Can walk or bus anywhere in HRM easily
  • Great Libraries
  • Can Visit PEI in one day
  • People are nice
  • Cheap flights to Ontario (To Visit Family)

Cons

  • Far from Family (No Support System)
  • Lower Salaries (Minimum wage $13.60)
  • Gas, some food items and Health related items are a little more expensive
  • Downtown living is expensive
  • Car has to be safetied
  • Have to change health card (Only after 3 months of living in Nova Scotia)
  • Different Health care system (Hard to get family doctor)
  • Competitive Rent Market
  • Parking can be hard to find sometimes (Especially during winter bans)
  • Smaller Church scene (Smaller churches and less variety)
